5 Tips for getting married at the Victorian Marriage Registry
PLANNING ON GETTING MARRIED AT THE VICTORIAN MARRIAGE REGISTRY BUT NOT SURE WHERE TO START?
As a Melbourne wedding photographer who specialises in photographing at the Victorian Marriage Registry here’s my top 5 tips for eloping or having in intimate ceremony at the Old Treasury Building.
Celebrate your way!
The Victorian Marriage Registry is one of my favourite venues to photograph at! Set inside the historic Old Treasury Building the Victorian Marriage Registry Office is within in walking distance of an abundance of Melbourne’s iconic bars and restaurants to celebrate in after your ceremony, not to mention many of the city’s best photography locations.
I photograph at the Melbourne Registry Office often and am here to share my expert advice with you on how to make the most of your own wedding. From booking in your ceremony to iconic photo locations and cute restaurants nearby, here are my top 5 tips I share with my couples who are planning a Melbourne registry office wedding or elopement…
1. Choose your date early.
A surge in popularity over the last few years to opt for a civil ceremony has seen dates filling up farther in advance that you’d probably be expecting.
The building has two historic rooms for you to choose from depending on how many guests you have. The smaller Thomas Hyde Room caters up to 8 guests and the larger Margaret Craig room caters for up to 55 guests.
If you have a particular date in mind I’d recommend reaching out the the Victorian Marriage Registry as soon as you decide on your date to avoid disappointment. Weekends and peek dated over summer can book out well in advance. You can book your date here.
2. Arrive Early.
You’ll need to arrive at least 15 minutes before your ceremony time.
You’ll be heading inside for pre ceremony paperwork 15 minutes before your ceremony time so make sure to arrive before this so you can greet your guests and soak up the moment.
If you have some guests along for your ceremony I recommend asking everyone to arrive 30 minutes before your ceremony time. This will allow you time to greet everyone and feel settled before heading in to do your paperwork.
The closest train station to the Old Treasury building is Parliament Station. Tram routes 11,12,48 and 109 stop on Collins St and the closest paid parking is available in Flinders Lane and St Andrews Place. There’s an accessible entrance available at the back of the Old Treasury building.
3. Be intentional with your choices.
You’ve chosen the Victorian Marriage Registry because you want to get married on your own terms, your way- so lean into it!
Lean into your personal style and wear what you feel fabulous in! Book a cute hotel room to get ready in together. Celebrate with a boujee lunch together afterwards. The point is- whole hearted lean into creating a day that that reflects you and your partner and have fun with it!
4. Have fun with it!
Let’s plan a fun adventure photoshoot together afterwards (or before!) your ceremony!
The time constraints and pressures of a large wedding don’t apply here so let’s have fun with your photos. Grab a sneaky midday marg at your favorite bar or relax together over a coffee. Jump on a tram or explore some of Melbourne’s hidden laneways. The possibilities are endless!
5. Make a whole day or mini break of it!
With so many iconic restaurants and accomodation options near the Victorian Marriage Registry you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to where to stay and where to celebrate at afterwards.
